Court Remands Pastor in Ondo Over Alleged Rape Case

A pastor facing rape accusations has been remanded by an Ondo court, with details of the case causing public concern in the region.

A pastor of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oluwasegun Victor has been remanded in a correctional facility by an Akure-based Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo State. This is as a result of his alleged involvement with impregnating a minor.

During the arraignment of the 31-year-old pastor for unlawful sexual intercourse, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps revealed to the court that prior to his arrest, he had allegedly impregnated five other minors.

It was reported that on July 24, 2024 in the Oba-Ile area of Akure North Local Government Area in Ondo State, Victor engaged in sexual relations with a minor which is deemed illegal.

As per the accusation from NSCDC prosecutor David Ebriku, the act violated Section 31(1) of Ondo State’s Child Rights Laws in 2007 and carries penalties under Section 31(2) of those same laws.

Olusegun Victor, male and aged 31 years old, allegedly committed a felony at about 1 pm on July 24th of the year 2024. The event occurred at No.73 Owode in Oba-Ile Akure within the jurisdiction of Akure Magisterial District where he had allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with Miss Precious Olisemeke who was only fifteen (15) years of age.

According to Ebriku, you have violated Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007 and are subject to punishment under Section 31 (2) of those same laws.

The prosecutor requested the court to detain the suspect in a correctional facility.

Mr. Alex Odunayo Olademehin’s attorney requested the court for additional time to answer the remand application filed against his client, who is a suspected rapist.

Afterwards, the accused was detained in a correctional facility by Taiwo Lebi, who presided over the proceedings. The next court session has been scheduled for September 19th of the year 2024.
