Court Orders Remand of Man Over Alleged Attempted Homicide

The court has ordered the remand of a man facing allegations of attempted homicide, with the case set for further proceedings.

On Friday, a Makurdi Magistrate’s Court detained James Aondongu for purportedly entering into someone’s house and stabbing the homeowner’s daughter.

Aondongu, presently residing in Apir village of Makurdi, is undergoing trial for four accusations including trespassing, breaking into a house with an intent to commit theft or violence, robbery and attempting homicide.

During court proceedings, Insp Ato Godwin disclosed that on August 5th, at No.26 Jerry Agber St., Ankpa Quarters in Makurdi the accused had perpetrated their unlawful acts.

The prosecutor claimed that the defendant had trespassed into his distant relative’s home with an intention to commit theft, which was against the law.

The defendant was seen breaking into the house by Ms. Queen Aondona, who is the daughter of the owner, as per his statement.

After Aondona raised an alarm, the defendant reacted by breaking a bottle on her head and then further stabbing her with a knife.

According to the prosecutor, “The complainant was in a pool of her own blood after falling and had to be rushed for treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.”

According to him, the transgressions went against Sections 230, 300, 350 and 351 of Benue State’s Penal Code from the year 2004.

The prosecutor requested a postponement from the court to allow for the completion of police investigations.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), no plea was taken from the defendant.

After reading the charge, Mr. Kelvin Mbanongun, the Magistrate sent the defendant to a correctional center for remand.

The case was postponed until November 5th for mention.
