The court has nullified Phillip Shuaibu’s impeachment as Edo Deputy Governor. Learn about the ruling and its implications.

The impeachment of Phillip Shuaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State has been nullified by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Shuaibu has been reinstated to his office as per the ruling by Justice James Omotosho on Wednesday. The Edo State House of Assembly’s failure to abide by due process while attempting Shuaibu’s impeachment was cited as the reason for this order.

Upon hearing the judge’s pronouncements, Shuaibu, who was present in court at the time, wept tears of happiness.

According to Justice Omotosho, the accusation on which the impeachment actions of the House of Assembly relied upon was legally unsustainable and did not amount to severe wrongdoing.

Until the completion of his term, the judge instructed IGP to provide necessary security measures that would enable him to resume office and effectively carry out his duties.
