The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been ordered to remove Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as the party’s national secretary by an Enugu State high court.
The PDP’s candidate for governor in the next election in Imo State is Anyanwu.
The decision was made in response to Nwabueze Ugwu’s move on notice, which asked the court to declare Senator Anyanwu’s seat vacant.
The South-East National Vice Chairman, the PDP National Chairman, and the PDP National Secretary were ordered by the court to recognise Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the candidate recommended by the South-East Zonal Executive Committee to succeed Anyanwu while the motion on notice was being decided.
The move on notice was brought under orders 38 rule 1 and 39 rule 1 of the High Court Rules of Enugu State 2020, according to the presiding judge, Justice C.O. Ajah, who also cited the applicant’s 23-paragraph affidavits.

“That in line with the Rules of this Court, this Order expires seven (7) days from today.
“That the matter be continued for the hearing on the motion on notice until October 30, 2023.”
Last weekend, the PDP’s South-East zone unanimously elected Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, a former PDP National Youth Leader, to be the new party national secretary.
The decision was made to let Senator Anyanwu focus on his campaign for governor of Imo State, according to a statement read by the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East Zone, Chief Ali Odefa.
