A court has issued an arrest warrant for a British citizen along with several others, intensifying the legal pursuit.

Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, a British citizen and ten other Nigerians were issued an arrest warrant by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

After an ex-parte motion was filed by Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police claiming that the defendants had conspired to unlawfully remove President Bola Tinubu from office, the court made its ruling.

Police prosecutor Audu Garba’s motion prompted Justice Emeka Nwite to grant the arrest warrant.

According to Garba’s statement in court, the defendants are currently not in custody and having a warrant would aid in their capture.

The defendants are facing various charges such as conspiracy, treason, incitement to mutiny, instigation of disaffection with the government and terrorism. These allegations fall under Sections 97, 410, 413, 416 and 412 of the Penal Code in addition to Northern States Federal Provisions Act CAP P3 LFN from year2004.

In addition to other charges, the accused are alleged to have conspired and organized assaults such as setting fire to the High Court Complex, Nigerian Communications Commission building, and a printing press in Kano State.

The goal of the court’s order is to make it easier for law enforcement officials to apprehend and bring charges against individuals implicated in these grave accusations.
