Mr Sunday Adewoye, a 45-year-old cleric, has been remanded by the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 22-year-old lady.
The court charged Adewoye with unlawful sexual penetration and rape, but his address was not provided.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, did not allow Adewoye to enter a plea, as he sought advice from the state director of public prosecutions.
Consequently, Adekomaiya ordered that the defendant be kept in a custodial facility until the advice is received.
The case has been adjourned until June 3 for mention.

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that the offenses were committed by Adewoye on April 17 at 5:00 pm on Joseph Dosu Way in Badagry.
According to Adeosun, Adewoye engaged in sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old lady without her consent, which is in violation of Sections 260 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The seriousness of the charges necessitated the court seeking advice from the state director of public prosecutions before proceeding further with the case.
