Court Arraigns Two for Allegedly Posing as Naval Officers
The court has arraigned two suspects accused of impersonating naval officers. Find out more about the charges and potential penalties.
Lekan Abiola and Timileyin Olaniyan were brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Friday, charged with the alleged impersonation of naval officers.
Abiola, 28, and Olaniyan, also 28, both without fixed addresses, were charged with conspiracy and unlawfully impersonating military officers.
The pair entered a plea of not guilty to the accusations.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, told the court that the defendants had committed the offenses on September 21 around noon at World Best Hotel in Ibadan’s Muslim area.

Igori mentioned that the defendants were dressed in military camouflage trousers and had Nigerian Navy ID cards in their possession.
Igori stated that the defendants were also found in possession of live AK-47 ammunition, an electric pistol, knives, and other dangerous weapons with the intent to commit a felony.
He stated that the offenses violated Sections 109 and 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, enacted in 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun, granted bail to the defendants at N200,000 each with one surety of an equivalent amount for each defendant and subsequently adjourned the case until December 4th for a hearing.
