A Nigerian citizen, Emmanuel Osase, who has been accused of being affiliated with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), has been granted a 60-day detention order by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This decision was made by Justice Inyang Ekwo in response to an ex parte motion filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking permission for the detainment.
The motion was presented by the DSS’ legal representative, A. A. Ugee, under the provisions of Section 66(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.

The purpose of the motion was to secure a court order allowing the detention of Osase for 60 days while an ongoing investigation into the terrorism-related allegations against him is completed.
Justice Ekwo, after reviewing the contents of the affidavit, granted the request made in the motion.
The case has been adjourned until June 3 to provide an update on the progress of the investigation.
According to court documents submitted by the DSS, Osase was apprehended on March 11 for allegedly spreading ISIS propaganda, denouncing Nigeria’s democratic system, and inciting terrorist attacks against the country and its institutions.
The DSS claimed that Osase had previously served a five-year prison sentence in France for offenses related to terrorism and was deported upon completing his term.
The agency further alleged that despite his criminal record, Osase continued to engage in terrorist activities, which led to his initial conviction in France.
