Prof. Pat Utomi, a political economist, has unveiled a plan by opposition leaders to unite and establish a new political party that will challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Utomi revealed that he has engaged in discussions with several presidential candidates from the previous election, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, regarding the possibility of bringing all opposition parties together under this new party.
Utomi emphasized that the focus should be on Nigeria and its people, shifting away from the current system of relying on oil revenue and instead striving to build a productive economy.
He expressed his disappointment that there hasn’t been a genuine political party in the country since 1999, stating that the aim is to create a fresh start and establish a political party with clear principles and guidelines for its members.
Since taking power in 2015, the APC has maintained its position at the center, surpassing any other party in terms of elected officials. This has been the case for the past 16 years since Nigeria returned to democracy.
