A woman and seven children were crushed in their car by a falling container. Discover the details of this heartbreaking accident.
On Thursday afternoon, Lokogoma Market in Lokoja experienced a severe accident when an articulated truck lost its grip and its container tumbled onto two stationary vehicles.
According to reports, a truck caught fire around 3:45 pm and subsequently crushed the cars in the incident.
After suffering from brake failure, the truck created a dramatic scene as it moved backwards before its container toppled onto the cars according to eyewitnesses.
A woman had recently retrieved seven children from school and was driving one of the cars involved in the accident. Fortunately, no severe injuries were sustained by anyone. Meanwhile, there wasn’t a single person present inside the other car when it occurred.
Mrs. Ramatu Audu, a shop owner in the area, shared a distressing experience when recalling that the woman parked her car and hurried inside her store. Swift emergency responders such as police officers, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel, Civil Defence operatives alongside state security officials under Commander Jerry Omodara’s leadership promptly arrived to provide support at the scene.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer SP Williams Aya, there were no reported deaths.
According to him, the collapse of the container caused small injuries to seven children who were then transported to a specialized hospital for medical attention.
