Workers have been warned by Organised Labour to prepare for immediate nationwide action should the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, who was imprisoned, not be freed by this Wednesday.

Ajaero was detained earlier on Wednesday in Owerri, the state capital, according to Channels Television. The workers were protesting what they perceived to be a “serial and habitual abuse and violation” of their rights by the state administration.

Shortly after Ajaero’s detention, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the National Labour Congress (NLC) jointly released a statement in which the labour unions accused the Imo State Commissioner of Police and Governor Hope Uzodimma of kidnapping the NLC chairman.

The Organised Labour claimed that while the NLC President is in the gulag, workers cannot be at work and asked to be ready for quick action.

President Bola Tinubu has to summon Uzodimma “to avert what he has chosen to turn the state into – a den of thugs and blood suckers,” according to Organised Labour.
