Concerned about certain North-East firms refusing to hire corps members, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has voiced its concern.
On Monday in Yola, at a one-day forum for corps employers, Garinvwa Ishaya, the zone’s NYSC director, made this statement.
“Deepening Corps Employers Participation Towards Improved Welfare and Security of Corps Members” is the workshop’s theme.
The tendency, he added, was demoralising for the corps members and the programme, and he emphasised that they should be given supportive conditions in their first assignments so they may contribute to the social and economic growth of the nation.

“The programme was created to enhance the socioeconomic development of our nation, and it has had a significant positive impact on strengthening our bonds as a nation.
In order to ensure the success of the programme and the country as a whole, we fervently implore businesses to always accept corps members assigned to their organisations.
According to him, employers are required by law to provide transportation and housing for corps members.
In order to further the goals of the programme, he consequently asked state governments to provide the corps members with appropriate housing and enlisted the help of local council chairmen.
The forum, according to the state coordinator for NYSC in Adamawa, will allow participants to strategize and share ideas for carrying out the program’s mission as well as hear from others about the programme.
Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno are supervised by the NYSC North-East zonal office.
