Community in Kaduna expresses concern over resumption of attacks by unidentified gunmen
Concern over the uptick in attacks against locals by unidentified gunmen has been voiced by the National Leadership of the Chawai Development Association in Kauru, Kaduna State.
The President of the Chawai Development Association, Abel Habila Adamu (Dan’Amar Chawai), claimed in a statement on Thursday that the country was in a condition of famine and that the innocent victims’ blood was gushing out in cries for justice.
The organisation denounced the purportedly harsh treatment of the Chawai people, saying, “We are hereby painfully addressing the general public, local and international Community, the new and conventional media over a resurgence of attacks on our people by the unknown gunmen.”
What’s even more concerning, the statement continued, “is that all efforts being made by the current CDA leadership on all reported cases of retaliations and counter-attacks going on in our land in recent times have proven abortive.”
The group added that the revival of the attacks at Angwan Magaji and Kigam Community, both in Kamaru Ward, resulted in the deaths of six people and the injury of four more by the unidentified shooters.
Governments at all levels were urged by the association to approach security with the utmost sincerity and honesty. It instructed security officials to deal with security issues involving the Chawai land more promptly.
It also urged natives not to impose their own rules but rather to keep fighting for peaceful coexistence with others in the face of all obstacles.
“As leaders of conscience, we shall sustain community engagement and inter-agency collaboration with all relevant stakeholders and those critically needed to work towards building a sustainable peace in our Chiefdom are met and ensure the required result is achieved,” the statement promised.
