Top military leaders have congratulated Muslim believers and troops on the front lines as Nigerians join their counterparts around the world to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
Major General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s soldiers for their sacrifice, dedication, tenacity, and resolve in removing existential threats to the nation’s unity, security, stability, and peace.
The Eid-el-Kabir holiday symbolizes unwavering faith and utter sacrifice. This is also true of the supreme sacrifices that our brave and defiant warriors continue to make in the face of threats to the nation’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.
Brigadier General Tukur Ismaila Gusau, the acting director of defense information, issued a statement on Wednesday that quoted Musa as saying, “The security and stability of our nation is the sacred and collective responsibility of all Nigerians.”
Musa also gave the Armed Forces’ officers and personnel his unwavering support as they carried out their constitutional obligations all around the country.
The Army Chief, for his part, praised the military for their “commitment and sacrifice towards combating emerging security challenges in theatres of operations across the country.”
In a statement issued by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachuku, Director of Army Public Relations, Lagbaja praised the sacrifice made by the troops serving in ongoing operations both inside and outside the boundaries of the nation.
The Army Chief was cited as stating, “Over the course of my career, I witnessed in different capacities, your efforts and sacrifices.”
“I have no doubt about the zeal and commitment of our troops in ensuring that the NA, working with our sister services, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, is successful in combating the complex, multifaceted, and unpredictable security threats bedevilling our country.”
He exhorted the soldiers to fight the nation’s enemies with resolve, unflinching, discipline, and patriotism.
Lagbaja claims that the sallah symbolizes the principles of sacrifice and devotion to the Almighty God that the Prophet Muhammad exemplified.
He said the occasion “brings to remembrance the supreme sacrifice officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army make on a daily basis to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation is preserved at all times.”
In addition, he advised the soldiers to use the spiritual significance of the event to pray for the Nigerian Army as it works to address security issues in all theaters of operations across the nation.
