COAS advises IPOB and ESN not to endanger the integrity of Nigeria
The Eastern Security Network, IPOB, and other separatist organisations have all received warnings not to endanger Nigeria’s unity.
Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff, issued a caution that no group or person, whether IPOB, ESN, or any other, has the legal authority to endanger Nigeria’s integrity.
During an Army function in Abuja yesterday, Yahaya delivered the warning.
“Let me declare here that elections or no elections, neither IPOB, ESN, nor any other organisation or person should endanger the integrity of our country as entrenched in the Constitution of Nigeria,” he stated.
“I must applaud you all for your commitment to all policies and implementation of decisions made during last year’s annual conference, as reflected in our professional behaviour and apolitical disposition during the just-concluded general elections,” the statement reads.
In addition, the COAS expressed delight with the compliments troops received from various organisations during the general elections in 2023.
The breakup of Nigeria and, thus, the actualization of Biafra have been the goals of IPOB and ESN.
The agitation of the organisation was centred on the claimed marginalisation of the Southeast by the Nigerian government.
