The Pro-CITIZENS Coalition bemoaned the weekend’s developments in Ondo State, citing in particular the state’s continuous exclusion from important national events and the continued absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from the state.

Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s deputy who is enmeshed in an impeachment dispute, has not been representing his boss at events, particularly at the National Security Council and National Economic Council, among others, according to a statement released by the group, which expressed alarm over the development and was signed by its chairman, Olalekan Adubiaro.

Adubiaro claims that certain members of Akeredolu’s cabinet have been purposefully keeping Aiyedatiwa out of state administration by taking advantage of the governor’s health issues and absence.

The organisation demanded that the matter be taken up immediately by the appropriate authorities because it is a serious threat to the state’s general well-being and effective governance.

The group stated: “The good people of Ondo State are becoming more and more concerned about the ongoing absence of their governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and the state’s noticeable absence from important interactions between the Tinubu administration and other state governments in the nation.

Governors or their representatives were present at a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council on Tuesday, which was chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Notably missing was Ondo State.

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the state’s governor, has been ill and hasn’t been able to attend meetings. Since his entry into the nation on September 7, 2023, after travelling from abroad, he has not yet left Ondo State.

Adubiaro bemoaned the lack of political leadership in the state’s eighteen local government units as a result of the management committees’ absence following the dissolution of the previous council chairman and council members’ terms in August.
