Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has charged that Abdullahi Ganduje’s previous administration neglected the field of education.
Speaking on Saturday when announcing a state of emergency over education in Kano, the governor said that Ganduje’s administration had transformed some public schools into private stores and sold others.
Additionally, Governor Yusuf charged his predecessor with trespassing on public school property and turning it into a private enterprise.

The governor further asserted that over 4.7 million students were seated on bare floors in state primary schools in 2023, the year his administration began.
He declared, “The administration we took over from chose to butcher the land belonging to those schools, in some places demolishing classrooms to create space for shops, rather than building more classrooms, providing basic furniture in the schools and hiring more teachers.”
“They closed and had vandals attack those schools that they were unable to sell.
“The invasion of public school property and the transformation of these essential establishments into private commercial spaces is a violation of our collective principles and a clear challenge to our dedication to public education.”
