Clash with bandits results in deaths of 30 security volunteers in Niger
Over 30 members of the volunteer security group Yan Sa Kai were reportedly killed by armed bandits during a confrontation in Dogon-Dawa community, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The tragic incident took place on a Saturday morning, as the Yan Sa Kai attempted to track down the gunmen to their hideouts, only to be ambushed and engaged in a fierce gun battle.
According to sources in the area, casualties were reported on both sides, although the exact number of fatalities from the bandits’ camp remains unknown.
The clash has left the community in shock and mourning, with many residents deeply affected by the violence that erupted unexpectedly.
Mariga Local Government Chairman, Abbas Kasuwar Garba, expressed his sadness over the incident, highlighting that the timing was particularly unfortunate as farmers were gearing up for the upcoming planting season

He reassured the community that the government would investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
