CJN Summons Judges in Rivers Crisis Over Discrepant Court Rulings
In response to contradictory rulings in the Rivers crisis, the Chief Justice of Nigeria has summoned the involved judges to discuss judicial consistency and uphold legal integrity.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has called a meeting with judges connected to conflicting decisions in political cases within Rivers State.
A panel from the national judicial council is set to investigate the judges, following the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s directive for a report to be submitted within this week.
The panel will be led by a former Court of Appeal justice along with two court heads.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria has also called the chief judge of the federal high court for a meeting on Tuesday.

This summons follows the filing of formal complaints with the council.
The Chief Judge of the Rivers State High Court is scheduled to appear before the NJC panel next week for a similar purpose.
During her appearance before the Senate for screening and confirmation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria on September 25, Justice Kekere-Ekun vowed to implement a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption within the judiciary.
She committed to doing her utmost, upholding the integrity of the judiciary and the rule of law, and defending Nigeria’s Constitution.
Kekere-Ekun assured that they are recognized for their integrity and discipline, promising to maintain a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption.
It is necessary to protect the judiciary and advocate for improved welfare for judicial officers to ensure they perform at their best. Additionally, the appointment of judicial officers will be conducted with stringent criteria.
