The Obi/Datti presidential ticket for the 2023 election has been suggested by an All Progressives Congress (APC) faction operating under the banner of Aggrieved Northern APC Christians.
The group explained why it supported Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as the Labour Party’s presidential candidates in a statement titled “Why we have chosen to endorse the Obi/Datti ticket,” which was signed by one of its leaders, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.
The organization referred to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC as demonic, asserting that it is an intentional and systematic attempt to sow the seeds of religious strife among Nigerians, with Northerners as their primary aim.
It gave voting advice against Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, and Kashim Shettima, his running mate, who they cited as having once said, “Restructuring my foot, let’s restructure our minds.” They described Bola Tinubu as a well-known Yoruba-hegemonist who championed the establishment of a Ministry of Regional Integration in each state government of the South-West geopolitical region.
The organization asserted that it thinks the Obi/Datti ticket will provide Nigeria a breath of fresh air and provide the best chance for the nation to emerge from the bog into which it has been sucked by a recurrent band of self-centered reactionaries.
