An elderly woman in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, succumbed to cholera after contracting the disease while caring for her sick child, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The unfortunate incident took place three days ago, as confirmed by Dr. Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health. Dr. Kunle Ashimi, the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in the state, highlighted the severity of the cholera outbreak, affecting 30 states in Nigeria, including Ogun.
He emphasized that treatment for cholera patients would be provided free of charge at designated facilities and urged the public to adopt preventive measures such as proper hygiene practices, safe water consumption, and monitoring food vendors to curb the spread of the disease.
