China, Iran, and Russia are conducting joint naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman, showcasing military cooperation amid rising global tensions. Read more on the drills and their implications.
China, Iran, and Russia have carried out collaborative naval exercises in the Middle East.
The exercises, known as ‘Maritime Security Belt 2025’, occurred in the Gulf of Oman near the pivotal Strait of Hormuz. This narrow entrance to the Persian Gulf is a crucial passageway through which twenty percent of global crude oil trade flows.
In the past, the region surrounding the strait has experienced incidents where Iran seized commercial ships and launched suspected attacks after President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew America from Tehran’s nuclear agreement with world powers.
The drill signified the fifth consecutive year that the three countries have carried out these exercises.
