Chima Udoye emerged victorious at the season nine finale of Nigerian Idol on Sunday, prevailing over a host of top performers and vocalists who had auditioned for the prestigious title over several months.
The live shows for the competition began with a powerful final episode, where John Legend’s “Glory” was performed by the top 10 contestants. This opening act paved way to performances from past winners who took centre stage- Progress made an appearance alongside Bigi Idol’s winner while Victory Gbakara thrilled us with his self-penned hit during his season finale. Later that evening, guest performers such as Chike and Simi joined in on what turned out to be a captivating event which saw the remaining three finalists give it their all up until closing time. Finally, amidst great suspense came fulfilment when Chima emerged victorious as this year’s champion of Nigerian Idol Season 8!
Udoye’s performances exude an on-stage charisma and vocal prowess that astounded judges 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani every time. In the finale, Omawumi acknowledged Chima’s competition was within himself – proof of his unlimited potential beyond mere competition boundaries.
With a specialization in soul and jazz, Chima expressed his desire to utilize the Nigerian Idol platform not only to showcase his vocal skills but also inspire others. Over twelve weeks later, he emerged as the winner of the competition.
