Chief Osita Chidoka, the former minister of aviation, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide him with all accreditation data from the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used in the Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states governorship elections that were held last Saturday.

Through the formal filing of a Freedom of Information, or FOI, Chidoka submitted the request.

This was revealed in a statement made public on Tuesday by Chidoka’s media assistant, Ikechukwu Okafor.

The statement claims that INEC has formally received and acknowledged the request.

“The INEC’s acknowledgement of this request represents our steadfast commitment to ensuring that our democratic processes accurately reflect the will of the people, and it is a critical step in our collaborative pursuit of an accountable electoral system.

“I am resolute in my pursuit of justice and openness. I’m ready to start legal action if INEC doesn’t answer in a meaningful way within the legally required seven days, Chidoka declared.

Chidoka also said that a few solicitors are prepared to take the required action to safeguard the integrity of democratic principles and votes, should the need arise, in order to legally assert his entitlement to information under the FOIA.
