Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina has been crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania 2024. Her win celebrates not only her grace and poise but also her commitment to advocacy and representation on the global stage.
Chidimma Adetshina was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania in Mexico on Saturday, November 16.
Adetshina, a law student and model born and raised in South Africa, represented Nigeria—her father’s homeland—in this year’s beauty pageant.
In August, she decided to step down as one of the ten finalists for Miss South Africa following xenophobic attacks directed at her on social media.
Four months later, she achieved the position of first runner-up to Miss Denmark, who was crowned Miss Universe 2024.
Victoria Kjær Theilvig succeeds Sheynnis Palacios as Miss Nicaragua.
This marks the first time a contestant from Denmark has won Miss Universe.
Miss Mexico, Miss Thailand, and Miss Venezuela were ranked as the second runner-up, third runner-up, and fourth runner-up respectively.
The 73rd edition was a significant milestone for Africa, as it marked the first time that 18 contestants from the continent competed for the crown. This year’s competition featured participants from a total of 125 countries.
