President Bola Tinubu’s alleged classmate, Olajide Adeniji, at Chicago State University, has sworn on oath that he knew Tinubu.
The development is related to a legal dispute between the President and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the academic records of the latter’s time at Chicago State University.
Adeniji gave evidence in a United States district court that, while serving as the Accounting Society Club President at the Department of Business Administration/Accounting in the same alma mater, he was acquainted with Tinubu and ran against him.
A public affairs expert named Durojaiye Ogunsanya also asserted to be a classmate of the President.
Adeniji pledged under oath on September 23 before the Northern District of Illinois Court in Chicago that he was acquainted with the same Tinubu who is the present President of Nigeria.
In his affidavit, he states: “I, Olajide Adeniji, after first being legally sworn upon oath, do hereby state that I am over 21 years of age, that I have firsthand knowledge of the events described below, and that I could competently testify thereto if called upon: I studied business administration/accounting from 1977 to 1979 at Chicago State University in Chicago, Illinois. In 1979, I received my degree.

“I am aware of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently Nigeria’s President. Between 1977 and 1979, Bola Tinubu and I were in the same academic programme at Chicago State University.
“I also competed in a hotly contested campaign for the Leadership of Accounting Society Club of the Department of Business Administration/Accounting against Bola Tinubu. Bola A. Tinubu, a classmate of mine from Chicago State University, is someone else I recognise and am aware is the current president of Nigeria. I certify that the information above is true and correct in accordance with 28 U.S.C. 1746 under penalty of perjury.
