When Chelsea visits his old team, Tottenham, in the Premier League on Monday, Mauricio Pochettino will be missing at least six players from his team.
Since last season, the Blues have struggled with injuries, and Pochettino and his staff have been working hard to keep their players from suffering from further musculoskeletal problems.
Chelsea has suffered repeated setbacks in the opening two months of the season due to injuries, but Pochettino received a double boost in the 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Blackburn. After missing several months, Benoit Badiashile and Reece James were both able to start at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
A new Cole Palmer issue might have surfaced ahead of the London derby against Spurs, but Enzo Fernandez was also recovered from the problem that kept him out of the Brentford game over the weekend. In light of this, ahead of Pochettino’s return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, football.london has gathered all the most recent injury news from west London.
Palmer Cole
During the second half of the Carabao Cup victory over Blackburn, Cole Palmer was seen hobbling. The 21-year-old remained on the pitch until the 86th minute, at which point it appeared that he had recovered from an ankle kick that had caused him to move cautiously and avoid applying too much weight to his foot. Pochettino is expected to clarify his status during his pre-Tottenham press conference today, since an impact injury is likely.
Mudryk, Mykhailo
Mudryk was not included on the matchday roster for the upcoming weekend’s match against Brentford. Pochettino will be keen to get the 22-year-old winger back into the starting lineup for Monday’s match against Tottenham despite the fact that he is presently recovering from a small knock. That optimism was somewhat dashed, though, as the Ukraine international was left off of the matchday roster against Blackburn.
The Reece James
Reece James started for the first time in more than two months against Blackburn in the Carabao Cup, following two cameo appearances from the bench. Malo Gusto came in to replace the Blues captain after he reached 61 minutes, and the club skipper shared a photo on his Instagram story to announce his arrival.
Pochettino stated: “We were going to see how he felt at halftime. He became fatigued after fifteen minutes, and in the second half, he was a little bit more so. We must be cautious in how we handle him. We changed at that precise time. It is crucial at this point in the process to go cautiously and avoid turning back. Although there is always some risk, we want to take it little by little.
James stated: “It’s been a long three months since I started, but it’s good to get more time in the legs.” I appreciate your on-going help. go on to the quarterfinal. I’ll see you on Monday night [emoji salute].”
Potential date of return: Received back
Nkunku Christopher
Since joining Chelsea in the summer after leaving RB Leipzig, Nkunku has yet to participate in a competitive match. During a pre-season friendly versus Borussia Dortmund, the 25-year-old suffered a serious injury to his knee.
Nkunku has advanced his recuperation regimen; wearing Chelsea clothing, he was seen outside on the Cobham training pitches for the first time since the summer. Pochettino has now raised the possibility that the France international will play again following the international break in November.
Armando Broja Broja was left out of the matchday roster for last weekend’s match against Arsenal. It’s unknown when he will return after the evaluation for a knee irritation he’s been receiving.
“Broja wasn’t available and to decide to play with Nico after the surgery on his wrist, it was to find a different way to play in our principles but I think to change the strategy to attack,” stated Pochettino.
Tottenham (A) on Monday, November 6 is one potential comeback date.
Lavia Romeo
Lavia has made encouraging progress towards a full recovery, but the Mail reports that she won’t be able to play until late November. According to the source, the Belgian started his recovery regimen at Cobham training field last week after being allowed to remove his protective boot.
A comeback in November is considered “optimistic,” according to The Mail. Lavia might not return until early December since it’s thought that the west Londoners are hesitant to send him back too soon.
Pochettino stated, “He is still not running, but I cannot tell you [when he will return].” He won’t be returning after the international break.
Potential time of return: late November or early December
Chalobah Trevoh
Before the match against Arsenal, Chalobah took a knock, as confirmed by an official statement from Chelsea. This season, the defender has been tending to a thigh ailment.
November is one possible comeback date.
Chukwuemeka Carney
Carney Chukwuemeka received a knock prior to the match against Arsenal, as confirmed by an official statement from Chelsea. He had been on the substitute list against Burnley, but he has since suffered another setback and has not appeared in any more games this year.
Though he has only recently resumed full first-team training at Cobham, the teenager has battled with a knee issue. How long he will be out is unknown.
Potential date of return: Not specified
Benjamin Chilwell
Chilwell was knocked down towards the end of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton in September. Sadly for the Blues defence, the team discovered very soon that the muscle problem was more serious than initially believed, and a month later, he is still sidelined.
“I can’t tell you [when he will return],” stated Pochettino. It’s challenging to determine. Now that he has left the training area, we will wait for him to return so we can assess the issue. I’m hoping he can get better as quickly as possible.
