an important proposal. Tottenham wanted him last summer but there has been no further development so far.”

Sky Sports have stated that Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder has not faded and they could make another move for him. Although, that will depend on their business elsewhere with Postecoglou revealing a centre-back is the club’s priority.

Spurs will be without Rodrigo Bentancur for a few months after he sustained yet another injury blow last month. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be set to leave the club in January, a move which may open up the possibility for Postecoglou to poach Gallagher from Stamford Bridge.

Prior to Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal between the Blues and Newcastle United, Mauricio Pochettino gave an explanation of why Gallagher is so vital to the team and to him. “He’s important because of Chelsea values,” he stated.

“He is an academy-produced product. He is obviously incredibly dedicated to the club and loves it.

On the pitch, he may be seen running, playing and fighting. He makes every effort to succeed. Indeed, I believe he is a very significant player who consistently fits the team’s and the coaching staff’s mould.

It was reported that at this time last year, Chelsea was making a concerted effort to offload the Cobham graduate. It’s a race against time for the Blues to keep Gallagher in west London as his current deal is slated to expire in June 2025, with 18 months remaining on it.

Fabrizio Romano, the transfer expert, has provided an updated assessment on Gallagher’s prospects at Chelsea. He wrote the following for CaughtOffside: “Mauricio Pochettino has discussed Conor Gallagher’s future, and things are pretty much the same as they were last summer.

“In the summer, he was available, but only for a significant bid. Chelsea wants to speak with the player and his representation since, in all honesty, he has always been available and his contract is about to expire in 2025.

“I believe a substantial offer would be necessary for January, but Chelsea may be willing to talk if the offer exceeded £35 million. They are not yet at the point where they have made the decision to sell Gallagher, therefore they do not fully approve of it.

“From what I’ve heard, there’s still no decision regarding Gallagher. Chelsea is still debating his new contract situation, but they can’t completely rule out his departure in the event that they an essential suggestion. Tottenham expressed interest in him in the summer, but nothing more has happened since.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham is still interested in the midfield player and may make another attempt to get him. That will, however, rely on their other business, as Postecoglou disclosed that the club’s top objective is a center-back.

Rodrigo Bentancur had yet another setback to his injuries last month, so Spurs will be without him for a few months. It’s possible that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg may depart the team in January, which could provide Postecoglou the opportunity to sign Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge.
