Jason McAteer, a former player for Liverpool, has criticised Manchester United for their mediocre performance thus far in the UEFA Champions League, claiming they have “lost their identity.”

On Wednesday in the Champions League, Man United fell to Bayern Munich 4-3.

In their matchup with the Premier League heavyweights at the Allianz Arena, Thomas Tuchel’s team scored goals through Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, and Mathys Tel.

In the 2023–2024 season, Man United has now dropped four of their first six games, including three straight.

Wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho are currently unavailable to play for the club due to their bad performances and off-field concerns at Old Trafford.

McAteer contends that Man United are not the same team they once were and that no club should fear them once more.

McAteer asked beIN SPORTS, “Do you know what else they’ve lost with their identity?”

“Manchester United is no longer feared. We are in a game today, we may lose this, they would say when they would visit Anfield.

“We’d never feel that way about anyone, but Man United was obviously the team that dominated the 1990s, so we’d be up against it. They no longer possess the fear factor that they once had.

They no longer have an identity, yet occasionally Man United act as if it still exists, as if they could just stroll into someone’s backyard and take it.
