According to the Nigeria Customs Service, in July and August 2023, it transferred N343 billion in income to the federal account.
Bashir Adeniyi, the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, revealed this on Thursday when discussing his accomplishments in his first 100 days in office with journalists.
The CGC reports that in the first half of 2023, the agency made an average of N202 billion in income.
In the time period under consideration, he pointed out, Nigeria Customs collected more money than their monthly objective of N307 billion.
The company providing the service had set a 2023 revenue target of N3.6 trillion.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu named Adeniyi as the Acting CGC in June, according to OBASANJO NEWS24.
One of our first successes was a notable increase in monthly revenue collection.
“We’ve seen a significant growth, with average monthly collections rising to an astounding N343 billion in the last two months (July and August) from an average monthly collection of N202 billion in the first half of the year, which ended in June.
“This exceptional rise translates to a stunning increase in revenue collection of 70.13%.
“I’m happy to report that we’ve regularly collected more money than our monthly target of N307 billion, which is a notable improvement over past results.
“Our dedication to income generation is demonstrated by the additional 8 billion Naira that the current income Recovery review operations have provided during this time.
“Subject to unanticipated events, our goal is to maintain and even build on this momentum through the end of the year. Our determination to reduce the departure from the objective, particularly in light of the significant failures reported during the first half of the year, is what motivates us to make this commitment, he said.
