The National Population Commission (NPC) claims that everything is set up for the population and housing census to be conducted in 2023.

President Bola Tinubu’s directives were all that was needed for the commission to begin the exercise, according to Clifford Zirra, NPC Federal Commissioner in Adamawa.

On Wednesday in Yola, Zirra discussed the state of census preparations with media executives during an interactive session.

The commissioner claims that Tinubu is pleased with the commission’s assessment of his degree of accomplishment.

According to him, the census was a crucial activity that had a big impact on how the country would develop in the future.

“It gives us precise, current information about our people, which is essential for efficient planning and growth.

“Policymaking, resource allocation, and the execution of various social and economic programmes will all be built on the data gathered during the census.

The Federal Government’s decision to delay the census’s execution in order to provide the incoming administration the chance to provide feedback is welcomed by the Commission, he added.

He claims that the delay has also provided the commission the chance to further refine its procedures and infrastructure in preparation for the first-ever digital census.

Zirra also stated that the commission has completed all required preparations for the census, including the creation of ICT infrastructure across the nation, the demarcation of the enumeration area, the conduct of pre-tests and trial censuses, training of field employees, and other tasks.

The state’s NPC director, Alhaji Abubakar Hamma-Adama, expressed his gratitude for the commission’s assistance and the state’s media outlets’ cooperation during the preparatory process.

“We sincerely appreciate your help, and we ask for your support going forward with the census once the date is set.

Actually, the census won’t be a success unless there is positive publicity and education, he claimed.

The commission will also observe World Population Day in 2023 with the subject “Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Uplifting the Voices of the Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities,” according to OBASANJO NEWS24.
