The Catholic Church has expressed support for Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God following his apology regarding his sermon on tithing, emphasizing that it does not advocate money as a prerequisite for entering heaven.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, the Director of Social Communications for the Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, stated that Adeboye’s apology was appropriate and necessary.

Pastor Adeboye admitted that it was an error to state that tithing is necessary for entering heaven.

In a statement, Godonu expressed: “Regarding Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s recent repentance over his three-year-old claim that non-tithers will not enter heaven, and his retraction of this statement, I believe it is the right thing to do. It suggests he has discovered enlightenment and truth. As John 8:32 states, ‘You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”

Pastor Adeboye has discovered the truth, which has set him free. Unlike some interpretations that focus on wealth as a path to salvation, the Catholic Church emphasizes doing God’s will and following Jesus Christ as key principles for reaching heaven.

“Embrace your daily challenges with gratitude and praise, as we teach in the Catholic Church. I’m pleased that a senior pastor in Nigeria has courageously spoken out at his age and during this time.”

“What more does he need to say than the truth if he truly wants to reach heaven? I commend him for discovering the truth and enlightening others.”
