Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke, Bishop of Ekwulobia, has denounced the current government’s currency policy for leaving many Nigerians stuck.
The priest also called the 2023 general election a “dirty joke” in his 2023 Easter message, which was made accessible to Obasanjonews24.
According to Okpaleke, individuals are enduring challenges that pose a physical, mental, and spiritual threat to life while navigating the “valley of darkness.”
He highlighted a number of things, including the “unknown gunmen,” murderous herders, other criminal forces, soaring inflation, unemployment, and crumbling infrastructure.
The bishop claimed that the “badly handled” cash policy made things worse since Nigerians wasted time and energy waiting for cash transfers to be confirmed in banks or marketplaces.
Okpaleke drew attention to point-of-sale (PoS) employees who exchanged actual currency for electronic cash at a higher rate in order to make up for the effort they took to get money.
The contentious 2023 general election, which “everyone hoped and strived to be a turning point for a better Nigeria,” was the height, according to the statement.
“This crucial ingredient in a democracy was converted into a nasty joke that sullied the high aspirations people had via criminal ignorance, if not the purposeful cooperation of a few,” he added.
A new Nigeria, according to Cardinal Okpaleke, “will rise and shine in Easter splendour through the might of God.”
He went on to say, “A new Nigeria… where the populace lives properly; a new Nigeria where justice shall flow like water and righteousness like a never-failing stream.”
