The electoral authority advised Nigerians to examine the data provided by the candidates and raise any questionable information in court.
On November 11, 2023, there will be three off-cycle governorship elections in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), this information will be made public.
The electoral body announced this on Thursday in a statement carried by Festus Okoye, who serves as its spokesperson.
According to him, candidates were nominated by 18 political parties for the Kogi governorship race and by 17 parties for the states of Bayelsa and Imo.
Additionally, Okoye attested that all political parties supporting candidates in the three elections had filed duly completed Forms EC9 including personal information backed by sworn affidavits as well as EC9B containing the names of their candidates.
“As required by section 29 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission shall publish the personal particulars of the candidates in the State Headquarters and Local Government offices in the three States tomorrow, Friday, May 12, 2023,” declared the INEC National Commissioner.
The electoral body urged Nigerians to carefully review the list, highlighting the fact that “any aspirant who participated in his/her party’s primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by the candidate is false can challenge the nomination at the Federal High Court as provided in section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.”
