The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the final list of nominees for this year’s awards.
Ademola Lookman from Nigeria has been nominated for the Men’s Player of the Year award.
At 27 years old, he excelled in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals and providing one assist across seven matches, leading to a second-place finish for the Super Eagles.
Lookman, who made history by scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final, will compete against Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams for the award.
Stanley Nwabali, his compatriot, was excluded from the final shortlist for the Goalkeeper of the Year category.
The goalkeepers vying for the award include Andre Onana from Cameroon and Manchester United, Ronwen Williams representing South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as Yahia Fofana of Côte d’Ivoire with Angers SCO.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, the goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, has been shortlisted as one of the final three contenders for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Zambian forward Barbara Banda and Morocco’s Sanna Mssoudy are the additional nominees for the prestigious award.
The Super Eagles and the Super Falcons have been nominated for the 2024 CAF National Team of the Year awards in both men’s and women’s categories.
The Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire, the African champions, and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are also finalists for the Men’s National Team of the Year award.
South Africa’s Banyana Banyana and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses are also in the running for the Women’s National Team of the Year award.
