Cabinet Shake-Up: Wike, Matawalle, Oyetola, and Others Retain Positions
Following the recent cabinet reshuffle, a full list of ministers who retained their positions, including Wike, Matawalle, and Oyetola, has been released. Discover who survived the shake-up and what it means for Nigeria’s political landscape.
On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu took decisive action by removing five ministers from their positions. In a move likened to a surgeon expertly using his tools, he also reassigned 10 ministers and nominated seven new candidates to fill the vacant posts left by those dismissed, as well as replacing Betta Edu, who had initially been suspended, and Simon Lalong, who departed from his cabinet role to join the Senate.
In August 2023, three months following his inauguration, former Lagos governor Tinubu appointed a total of 48 ministers. The Senate promptly screened and confirmed these appointments. Among the ministers was Betta Edu, who faced suspension in January. Additionally, Simon Lalong, the ex-governor of Plateau State, resigned from his ministerial position to join the upper legislative chamber.
