Businessman charged with a N9.8 million tyre fraud faces court. Find out more about the accusations and the case’s progress.
Philip David, a businessman aged 45, was brought before the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for purportedly engaging in fraudulent activities involving car tyres worth N9.8 million.
Standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud is the defendant who resides in Barnawa, Kaduna.
During the court proceedings, Inspector Chidi Leo, acting as a prosecutor, stated that in September of 2023 along Ahmadu Bello Way at Taiwo Road in Kaduna, the defendant carried out these crimes.
Leo alleged that the accused received a total of N9.8 million from Vincent and Sons Investment Limited for the purpose of providing car tyres in various sizes.

The defendant failed to provide tires and declined to reimburse the money for a period of one year, according to the prosecutor.
According to him, the violations infringed upon Sections 285, 217 and 241 of Kaduna State’s Penal Code in 2017.
The accused declared their innocence regarding the allegation.
The defendant was granted bail by Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, requiring them to present two sureties in the same amount of N1 million.
Emmanuel directed that the guarantors were required to live within the court’s jurisdiction and furnish proof of employment along with tax payment made to Kaduna State Government.
The case was adjourned for hearing until October 23rd.
