Burna Boy becomes the ‘First African’ to reach one billion streams on Audiomack

When the Afrobeats singer headlined a solo gig in a stadium in the UK earlier this month, she made history as the first African act to do so.

Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning musician from Nigeria, has achieved the distinction of being the first African artist to reach one billion streams on Audiomack.

On Thursday, Audiomack, a music streaming service that enables creators to freely share an endless quantity of music and podcast content, tweeted a message of congratulations to the Nigerian via its Twitter account.

The statement congratulated Burna Boy for becoming the first African artist to reach 1 billion Audiomack streams.

The afrobeat singer, who has dominated the international Afrobeats scene, tweeted in response to the news with two words that alluded to his body of work: “Big 7!”

According to Rolling Stone UK, the Afrobeats artist made history earlier this month when he became the first African act to headline a solo gig in a stadium in the UK.

The 80,000-seat London Stadium was sold out by the 31-year-old musician, who performed songs from his top album “Love Damini” as well as other successes. The London Stadium crew applauded him for his achievement on Twitter.

On June 10, Burna Boy played at the Pepsi Champions League Kick-Off Show following his sold-out performance in the London Stadium.

Alongside Brazilian pop icon Anitta, he performed songs like “Last Last” and “It’s Plenty” live in Istanbul, Turkey.

Burna Boy’s popularity has grown in bigger music markets thanks to his expanding global fan base and artistic achievements.

The song “Sittin’ on Top of the World” from his most recent album reached a new top on the Netherlands Daily Spotify Top Songs Chart. In the UK Daily Spotify Top Songs Chart, it also gained ground.

On July 8, 2023, Burna Boy will make history by being the first Nigerian performer to headline a stadium show in the US, according to Billboard.
