‘Best Afrobeats’ is a brand-new category that will be included at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 2023 MTV EMAs nominees, which were made public on Wednesday, contained the category.
Aya Nakamura, a French celebrity, and the Nigerian singers Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema are the category’s original candidates.
In the meantime, Rema and Selena Gomez’s smash single “Calm Down” received nominations for “Best Song” and “Best Collaboration.”
The ‘Best African Act’ category nominees included Asake, Burna Boy, Libianca from Cameroon, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, and Tyler ICU from South Africa.
Along with Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and others, Burna Boy was nominated for “Best Live Performer”.
Taylor Swift, an American singer, received seven nominations, including “Best Artist,” “Best Song,” and “Best Video,” the latter of which was for her single “Anti-Hero.”
The 2023 MTV EMAs will take place in Paris, France, on November 5, 2023.
