France has expressed its disapproval of Burkina Faso’s military government for expelling three French diplomats from the country.
The French Foreign Ministry released a statement stating that the allegations against the diplomats were unfounded and that the Burkinabe authorities had no valid reasons for their decision. France has expressed regret over the expulsion and highlighted that some of the diplomats were serving at the French Embassy in Burkina Faso.
This incident adds to a series of diplomatic setbacks that France has faced in its former colony, including the expulsion of the French ambassador. Relations between Paris and Ouagadougou have been strained since Burkina Faso’s military coup in 2022, with the cancellation of a military assistance agreement and the removal of French troops.
Additionally, French news agencies have been suspended in Burkina Faso, with accusations of spreading disinformation and supporting militant groups.
In September, another French defense attache and his team were also expelled on similar charges. The French Foreign Ministry has dismissed these allegations as baseless.
