Before Bola Tinubu’s inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari will show off the national and company flags for the Nigerian Army’s new and fully operational units.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, who is in charge of Army public relations, made the news.

Nwachukwu spoke in Abuja at the Trooping and Presentation of Colours Parade before the President-elect was sworn in on May 29.

The Army’s spokesman said that the groups’ last Trooping and Presentation of Colours Parade was in 2007.

Since then, the army has created and put into action new units to meet its growing tactical needs and the requirements of its current Order of Battle (ORBAT).

The director said that the Army’s colours have been used in many actions in different geographic zones and other countries, so they deserve to be replaced.

“According to the traditions, customs, and morals of the Nigerian Army, the torn or worn-out flags will be retired at the trooping and presentation of colours parade in 2023.

“Therefore, a total of 81 units will take part in the parade. 53 colours will be retired, and 28 will be given to new units,” he said.
