President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly handed his successor, President Bola Tinubu, a banana peel by delegating the elimination of the fuel subsidy to him, according to Dumebi Kachikwu, the Action Democratic Congress’ (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
On Monday, Kachikwu made this claim while appearing as a guest on Politics Today on Channels Television.
He mentioned that Buhari pushed the removal of fuel subsidies to Tinubu’s administration because he did not want to take ownership of it.
“Clearly, the outgoing President Buhari handed the President a banana peel by failing to provide for subsidies beyond June when he was about to leave office.
He pushed that responsibility to the new government because he obviously did not want to deal with it.
“We also recognize the dire state of the Nigerian economy, the lack of funding for the government, and the NNPC’s close to unconscious condition.
They are said to owe more than two trillion naira at this time, so if they continue to fund subsidies, they will collapse. “President Tinubu just briefed Nigerians on the circumstances he encountered,” Kachikwu said.
