President Muhammadu Buhari has begged Nigerians who he must have offended in the course of his duty to forgive him with 38 days till his resignation.
The President also thanked Nigerians for putting up with him throughout the eight years he presided over the country’s affairs.
He addressed on Friday in the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria, during his final Sallah homage by citizens of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who were headed by the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello.
Buhari praised democracy as the finest form of administration, claiming that without it, he would not have been able to become president after serving as military Head of State.
He remarked that he thought the Sallah celebration was an excellent opportunity to say farewell and to “thank you for tolerating me for eight years.”
“I’m counting the days,” President Buhari continued. Democracy is a wonderful thing; otherwise, how can someone from the other side serve two terms as president? It’s eight miles from my home to the Niger Republic.
“I believe it is a really nice coincidence for me to say farewell and thank you for putting up with me for the last more than seven and a half years.
“I can promise you that I have made conscious plans to stay as far away from you as possible, not because I don’t value the affection you have given me, but rather because I believe I have gotten what I asked for and would want to quietly return to my hometown.
“I believe God has given me an extraordinary chance to serve as your president after serving as a governor, a clergyman, and twice as your president. And for that, I am grateful to God.
So, anyone believes I have wronged them, just remember that we are all just people. There is no question that I injured some individuals, and I really hope you will forgive me. Please forgive me if I offended someone so deeply.
He promised the populace that nothing would prevent the May 29 transition to the new administration.
On the parade area of the Mambilla Barracks, the President had previously prayed for Eid el-Fitr among other devout Muslims.
Buhari was joined by some of his family members and staff assistants when he arrived on the scene at approximately 9:10 am.
Some Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, security chiefs, leaders of paramilitary outfits, and government representatives were present at the prayer area as well.
