A dispute over property ownership in Uyo has sparked tensions between the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star and the New Kingdom Ministry. The conflict, centered on the rightful claim to the property, has escalated, drawing attention to the legal and spiritual stakes involved.

A church identified as New Kingdom Ministry has reportedly assaulted a worship center belonging to the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) on Nsikak Eduok Road in Uyo, causing damage to their property.

The church has stated that it disagrees with the decision made by Hon. Justice Joy Unwana of the Akwa Ibom State High Court on October 17, 2024, which declared that the property in question belongs to BCS.

Sammy Effiok, a church official, expressed that the judgment was incorrect. As a result, they disregarded it and took over the BCS property, asserting ownership.

The leadership of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has urged the general public to ignore misleading videos released by New Kingdom Church on social media. These videos incorrectly suggest that their spiritual organization’s headquarters in Calabar was attacked.

Amah Williams, the spokesman for BCS, spoke to the press in Uyo on Saturday, November 16, 2024. He asserted that thugs were sponsored by the New Kingdom Church to vandalize their property.

Williams explained that members of the New Kingdom Ministry took BCS and its leadership to court.

He stated, “The situation is straightforward: the property in question is involved in a legal dispute. On October 17th, 2024, Honorable Justice Joy Unwana of the Akwa Ibom State High Court ruled that New Kingdom Ministry’s application was without merit and dismissed it. The court ordered N100,000 to be paid by the applicant to each of the 12 respondents. Instead of seeking proper legal counsel, members of New Kingdom Ministry chose to take matters into their own hands by organizing hoodlums to invade BCS Worship Center at Nsikak Eduok road area which directly defies this court ruling.”

Their actions, evident in the now-viral video, highlight their lack of understanding of the scriptures and suggest they are not guided by the Holy Spirit.

Amah remarked that the behavior displayed in the viral video demonstrates a lack of spiritual understanding among those involved.

I encourage the general public to disregard the violence associated with the church and concentrate on uncovering the truth.

He noted that they are unable to fight for what is rightfully theirs, stressing that BCS is a peaceful and law-abiding organization.

He mentioned that the law is already proceeding as it should.
