Mike Lynch, a British technology tycoon aged 58 and his daughter Hannah Lynch who is just 18 years old are unaccounted for along with four others following the sinking of a high-end yacht off the Sicilian shores on Monday morning.

Amid a heavy storm, the Bayesian – a 56-meter yacht- capsized while carrying 22 individuals including nationals from Britain, America and Canada.

While near the village of Porticello, close to Palermo, the Sicilian capital, the vessel faced harsh weather conditions including waterspouts – swirling columns of air over sea.

As per reports from locals, at that time when storm hit the yacht had already anchored which led to malfunctioning mast and loss in equilibrium ultimately leading towards sinking around 05:00 local time.

Rescue teams were able to save fifteen people, among them a one-year-old British girl. However, the search for six others including Mr. Lynch and his daughter still goes on. To locate those who are missing below 50 meters of water, Italian authorities have enlisted caving and rescue diving experts in their efforts.

Renowned for co-founding Autonomy, a software company sold to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion, Mike Lynch is frequently compared to “the British Bill Gates.”

Salvatore Cocina, the head of Sicily’s civil protection agency, verified that a corpse was found although it is still uncertain which country the deceased belonged to. Despite this development, rescue efforts continue as officials labor overnight in their search for any remaining passengers who are unaccounted for.
