Breaking: Wike Announces New Appointment to Boost Governance

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has named Udo Atang as his Senior Special Assistant on Administration.
The announcement was issued in a statement on Friday by Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press for the minister’s office.
Atang, the retired inaugural Head of Civil Service for the Federal Capital Territory Administration, will begin his new role immediately.
The statement described Atang as a veteran administrator with substantial experience in public service, governance, and administration.
Atang, who was born on March 27, 1964, comes from the Eket Local Government Area in Akwa-Ibom State. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Calabar in 1987 and started his career with the now-defunct Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory in 1989.

Over his 35-year career, Atang held multiple senior administrative and strategic positions within the FCT Administration. His distinguished service resulted in his appointment as the inaugural Head of Service for the FCTA in March 2024. When he reached the retirement age of 60 on March 27, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his tenure by six months.
According to the statement, Atang’s expertise has played a crucial role in implementing various reforms and initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.
In his new role as Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Atang—a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria—will work closely with the FCT Minister to oversee critical administrative functions. He will ensure smooth coordination of activities and offer strategic advisory support to the Minister.
