Amid heavy rainfall in Benin City, a building collapse has left several UNIBEN students trapped, prompting emergency response efforts to rescue those affected.
It has been reported that a storey building collapse in the state of Benin, trapping several students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
The incident reportedly took place on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin, a locality renowned for accommodating students, according to Sahara Reporters.
On Saturday morning in Edo State’s Benin City, the building crumbled due to a severe downpour.
At the time of writing this report, rescue operations are still in progress.
Several occupants were severely injured, despite the university rescue team managing to extract some of them. One student who wished to remain anonymous shared this information.

He stated that the wounded individuals were quickly transported to receive immediate medical attention at the hospital.
“The rescue team is currently scouring the wreckage for a lone individual who remains trapped. The person in distress reportedly reached out from within the structure, desperately calling for aid and search efforts persist to unearth them,” conveyed the student.
According to reports, the UNIBEN Dean of Students is present at the location and actively collaborating with the university team in coordinating rescue operations.
As of the time of reporting, an official statement from the university management regarding the cause of collapse or number of affected individuals has not been released.
