Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, says President Bola Tinubu has ordered a probe into the payment of N585 million into a private account.

There was outrage after a memo surfaced wherein Betta Edu, minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, asked Oluwatoyin Madein, accountant-general of the federation (AGF), to pay the aforementioned sum to one Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola.

Although the AGF said she did not execute the request, Rasheed Zubair, media aide to the minister, said the request followed due process.

The President has instructed a thorough investigation to be carried out in order to determine the accuracy and validity of the reported details, in light of recent events.

The government is committed to uncovering the truth regarding this matter and assures that appropriate action will be taken to identify and punish any breaches and infractions, in accordance with the Administration’s dedication to public accountability and due process.

It is important for the public to be aware that the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, led by Minister Mohammed Idris, is the primary source of verified information regarding the events and actions of the Federal Government of Nigeria, amidst the various unverified narratives circulating on the Internet.
