Breaking: Tinubu is named president-elect by INEC
With 8,794,726 million votes cast on Saturday, the All Progressives Congress’ Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was proclaimed the victor of the election.
The commission’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, proclaimed Tinubu the new president at precisely 4:10am on Wednesday.
He claimed that Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes in total, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,984,520. Peter Obi of the Labour Party received 6,101,533 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party came in last with 1,496,687 votes.
He stated that out of the 24,966218 votes cast, 24,025940 were valid and 939,278 were rejected.
The collation, which began on Sunday, came to a close with the announcement, which was made at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.
The INEC Chairman announced the results and stated that Tinubu and the APC also met the constitutional requirement.
At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Yakubu, Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima, his running mate, would each receive a certificate of return (CoR).
