BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Tegbe as Director-General for China-Nigeria Strategic Partnership

President Tinubu has appointed Tegbe as the Director-General for the China-Nigeria Strategic Partnership, aiming to strengthen ties between the two nations. Learn more about this significant appointment.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Secretary General and Global Liaison Officer for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership.

The development comes in line with the commitments of the two countries to form a hospital partnership and collaborate in medical research.

This was announced in a press release by the Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategic Affairs, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Tegbe, a 1988 Honours Graduate in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, will report directly to the President.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria.

Onanuga said Tegbe would immediately present a strategic action plan to the Chinese government to ensure Nigeria benefits from the agreement between the two countries.

“As strategic partnership emperor, he will manage the day-to-day operations and work continuously with Chinese partners to ensure all deliverables are met and in sync with national development goals.

The strategic plan will set out specific deliverables, timelines and key performance indicators for each area of ​​cooperation. These include priority projects, planned investments and expected socio-economic outcomes,” the statement said.

As a reminder, at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Xi Jinping pledged 360 billion yuan (about $51 billion) in new financial assistance to African countries over the next three years.

During his official visit to FOCAC, President Tinubu also received an assurance from President Xi to support Nigeria’s plans for economic diversification, infrastructure development, technology transfer and job creation.
